SPECIAL OPERATIONS UNIT

The Oxford EMS Special Operations Unit (SOU) was created to expand our ability to serve the community and region during large-scale, complex, or long-duration incidents. The unit provides specialized support capabilities that enhance scene operations, improve responder safety, and strengthen interagency collaboration.

Through advanced training, specialized equipment, and dedicated personnel, the SOU supports Oxford and surrounding communities during events such as structure fires, mass-casualty incidents, search and rescue operations, and major planned events. The team works hand-in-hand with Oxford Fire, regional partners, and state agencies to deliver professional, coordinated, and high-quality emergency support.

The Special Operations Unit currently includes several key components:

Beyond Oxford, the vehicle functions as a regional resource, available to assist Region 5 and statewide partners, reinforcing our commitment to cooperation and mutual aid across Connecticut.

K9 Search & Rescue Team
The Oxford EMS K9 Search & Rescue Team is a specialized division of the Special Operations Unit dedicated to assisting in the location and recovery of missing or injured persons.
The team combines the capabilities of trained search dogs, skilled handlers, and support personnel to provide rapid and effective search operations in collaboration with local, regional, and state public safety agencies.
